Indivisible Little Rock/Central AR Condemns today’s ICE murder in Minneapolis

January 25

On the morning of January 24 in Minneapolis, multiple ICE agents tackled a peaceful observer to the ground. In the chaos, the man was shot and died on the scene, killed by ICE agents.

With the rest of the nation, Indivisible LRCA has watched the lethal cruelty of ICE increase with dismay and great concern for our neighbors. We have also watched normal people, everyday neighbors, and friends gather together to resist nonviolently, collectively, and with hope.

We condemn the use of force, the unrestrained, violent methods of engagement, and the way ICE descends into communities, violating and eroding the Constitutional rights of the people. We condemn the killing of innocent observers, the killing of humans detained in ICE facilities far from their homes, and the cruel separation of families.

We demand our elected representatives — particularly Senator Boozman and Senator Cotton — vote against the DHS bill that will increase ICE funding, and to publicly condemn these atrocities.

We demand that Representative Hill, who voted yes to increase ICE funding last Thursday, publicly share how he plans to address ICE violence toward citizens. As our elected representatives, they must vote to limit ICE’s reach, support independent investigations, and influence their colleagues to a more humane position regarding immigration and law enforcement overreach.

We support the heroic people in the Twin Cities and Minnesota in their inspiring work of resisting fascism. They are a shining beacon of determined hope, and we offer our encouragement and solidarity in these dark times.

We urge Central Arkansans to call Senator John Boozman, Senator Tom Cotton, and Representative French Hill now to express your anger that our tax dollars are being used to kill people in the streets. Calling is the most effective method to remind our elected officials we’re watching.

Sen. Boozman – (501) 372-7153
Sen. Cotton – (501) 223-9081
Rep. Hill – (501) 324-5941

Here are a few call scripts that you can use when you call.

FOR SENATORS BOOZMAN & COTTON

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a constituent from [Your City, State].

I’m calling to urge Senator [Name] to refuse to vote for any appropriations bill funding the Department of Homeland Security that fails to rein in ICE.

Renee Good’s killing on January 7 and another killing January 24 is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against our communities.

We can’t wait around while ICE harms more people. Senator [NAME] must push for an appropriations bill that puts serious restrictions on ICE, ends its dragnet raids, and doesn’t add a penny to its already bloated budget.

FOR REPRESENTATIVE HILL

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a constituent from [Your City, State].

I’m calling to let Representative Hill know that I disagree with his January 22 vote to increase ICE funding. This appropriations bill fails to rein in ICE.

Renee Good’s killing on January 7 and another killing January 24 is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against our communities.

We can’t wait around while ICE harms more people. What is Representative Hill’s plan to address ICE violence towards citizens? I demand he publicly share with his constituents.

Next Steps
