Pax Christi Little Rock Celebrates 52nd week of Protests

February 19

Every Thursday for the past year, Americans have been showing up to exercise their right to peacefully protest at the event organized by Pax Christi of Little Rock. Dozens (anywhere from 25 – 100 on any given Thursday) have stood on the sidewalk in heat and cold, holding signs in protest of the authoritarian regime and Congress’ lack of action. Their support continues to grow and this Thursday they look forward to showing gratitude and solidarity with those who have shown up throughout the year.

“I started protesting because I was angry with the lies, the corruption, the cruelty and the lawlessness of the Trump administration. I was angry with our elected representatives that were abdicating their responsibilities.
I was angry and I was concerned about the future. I felt I HAD to do something.
The reason I keep protesting is that I am not angry when I am surrounded by like minded individuals. I am not angry when the cars that pass are honking, the people waving and screaming thank you! I am joyful and hopeful. I feel like I am making a difference.”  – Betty

Silence is complicity. We must ensure our members of Congress know we expect them to rein in the cruel and lawless administration. We must speak out against the madness.”  – Teri

It’s the right thing to do. There needs to be a change. This is my little part.” -Anonymous

Organizers are planning a party following the demonstration this week and want all who have stood with them, even if only once, to be part of the celebration. Any interested volunteers are encouraged to contact the Pax Christi group through their Facebook.

Pax Christi Little Rock is a nonviolent Catholic peace and social justice movement that is sponsoring the demonstration being held on the corner of Markham and University every Thursday at 4 pm. This diverse group of patriots has gotten together for the past 52 weeks to protest actions and executive orders by the current administration that are unconstitutional, immoral, or go against the rule of law in our country. All are welcome to join us! We will be here until the government returns to the support of democratic values.” -Sherry
